THE TOOLS BEHIND THIS NEWBIE’S BLOG
I took my blog live on July 10, 2017. Thanks to the experience I have gained through the various courses I have taken, I made an affiliate sale within the first hour of pressing publish. I consider the items below blogging essentials.
Below you will find a list of the courses I have taken, the tools I use, and the people who have helped me get to this point: my blogging essentials.
This page contains affiliate links. Read my disclosures here.
I use the Divi theme with a custom child theme and Divi Builder to create my pages. The builder function is perfect for someone like me, who is clueless about web design. It comes with built-in templates for pages and posts, which is a real time saver.
This is my new hosting company, and they are amazing. I was with another company that I had several problems with before even going live, so I worried about what that would mean in the future. I have had numerous live chats with several of SiteGround’s tech gurus and was blown away by how quickly they solve my issues and how patient they are with me. I am clueless, so I ask a lot of questions. I LOVE them!
This is the plugin I use to make sharing the content from my blog so easy for my readers: It’s the line of green social media icons that scroll along the bottom of all of my posts. It’s very simple for me to use as well. There are many customizable options. This one came highly recommended to me, and I now know why.
I tried two other themes before finding Sarah at Pretty Web Design. Sarah designed the Divi child theme that makes my site look so lovely. She is a saint and went above and beyond helping me figure out customizations and design elements in Divi. Her designs are gorgeous and affordable and she is very responsive. I highly recommend her.
This bundle offers many tools perfect for any blogger looking to get and stay organized- and who doesn’t need that? I need all the help I can get. Sarah is just a supportive person as well. She is incredibly successful, but very down to earth.
This is the course that helped me gain confidence with WordPress. Even though I did not stay with the theme Shannon suggested and used in her tutorial, she is the one who led me to Elegant Themes, which I am forever grateful for. This is an exceptional course. I cannot believe she offers it free! I paid for the upgrade to get additional WordPress info and plan on going back to purchase another course when I have time. Shannon Rocks!
Michelle from Making Sense of Cents makes over $100,000 a MONTH on her blog. Much of this is from affiliate marketing. starting a blog is an investment and it takes money to keep it running, so learning about affiliate marketing makes sense for anyone who blogs. It is a win for the reader and the blogger, because products are available at no extra cost, or even at a discount for readers, yet when they make a purchase from a link, the blogger gets a “finder’s fee” of sorts. Because of this course, I knew all about affiliate marketing and had links within my posts when I went live. I made a sale within the first hour of going live! I wrote more about affiliate marketing here.
I signed up for the EBA course before I even had a direction chosen for my blog. I read about it and knew that Rosemarie Groner from The Busy Budgeter had taken this course and spoke highly of it. She grew her blog by following the program step by step, so that is what I plan to do as well.
I found Kim through the Elite Blog Academy Facebook group. She has a successful blog, Thrifty Little Mom, and offers consulting packages for new bloggers. She helped me organize my thoughts and see the big picture of where I want this blog to go. She is very supportive and helpful.
This is the service I use for my email list. I create my subscription forms and landing pages for email subscribers with convert kit. It is not free, but I intend to grow and this service came highly recommended for its ease of use
This is the program I use to proofread everything I write. First impressions are everything.
I always joke about how I wish I could make a living from pinning since I am such a Pinterest Junkie, and that’s what this EBook is all about. Pretty exciting, if you ask me.
This is an evolving list. I will update as I add on.
